Saionji Kinfuji (西園寺公藤)

Kinfuji SAIONJI (1455-August 10, 1512) was Kugyo (top court official) during the Muromachi period. He served two Emperors, Emperor Gotsuchimikado (the 103rd) and Emperor Gokashiwabara (the 104th), and was promoted to Shonii Udaijin (Senior 2nd Rank, chief of an Imperial Japanese Council of State). His father was Sadaijin (minister of the left) Sanetoo SAIONJI. His child was Sadaijin Sanenobu SAIONJI.

In 1482, he became Jusanmi (Junior 3rd Rank) and was raised to Kugyo. In 1485, he became Gon Chunagon (a provisional vice-councilor of state). In 1489, he became Gon Dainagon (provisional major councilor). In 1497, he became Ukone no daisho (major captain of the Right Division of Inner Palace Guards). In 1501, he became Naidaijin (minister of the center) and Sakone no daisho (major captain of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards). In 1504, he resigned Sakone no daisho. Though he became Udaijin in 1506, he resigned the next year. He died of paralysis in 1512. Died at the age of 58.
